AsianBoston Drama Essay Contest Ceremony

Thursday, October 11, 2012, Quincy, MA

This night, at the ABMG’s North Quincy office, we had a small but pleasant ceremony to honor the winners of the AsianBoston TV Drama Essay Competition. The winners were high school students and a college freshman. They were young, but, mature. In an interview session, these rising stars showed their enthusiasm in writing and the love for the Asian community.

The purpose of the essay competition was to inspire a new TV drama produced by ABMG. Participants in the overall contest were made up of Asian Americans and Asian immigrants of all ages. Alex Nguyen stood out and took first place in the competition. In his essay, he showed “the importance of perseverance and success for the concerns of the general Asian population,” according to the judges. Our second place winner was Yanyi Weng, who reflects her personal experience of her contribution to the Chinese community and the love for her father. The third place winner was Yvonne Fong. Yvonne “explained the need to combine both cultures using ‘tapestry’ metaphor to establish an identity.”

After the ceremony, Alex, Yanyi, Yvonne, and Amy (consultant) were interviewed by Vicki Chu of ABMG. The questions simply related to their experiences of being an Asian in the U.SA. They all had candid thoughts to share with us. After hearing their stories, we felt revived and hopeful to have them as the young generation of America.

We truly hope they achieve their goals and we are excited to work with them on the TV Drama project as consultants. Best wishes to Alex, Yanyi, Yvonne, and Amy.
